‘Community Cup’ Street-ball Championship slated for November 15th kickoff

Jamal Baird, Dragon Stout Brand Coordinator, has confirmed that the inaugural ‘Community Cup’ Street-ball Championship will become a reality, as arrangements are currently in the process of being finalised.

The aforementioned information was disclosed by the former football player in a press release. The event, which is slated to last for four days, will start on November 15th at the National Gymnasium.

The 16 participating clubs will compete for a place in the grand final on December 6th and a chance to battle for over $500,000 in prizes.

The teams which are expected to compete in the tournament include traditional giants Gold is Money, Leopold Street, Sparta Boss, Bent Street, Tiger Bay, Melanie-B, Albouystown, Back Circle, North East La Penitence and Showstoppers.

Baird, whom emanates from the Festival City environ and plied his trade for Tucville giant Fruta Conquerors during his playing career, disclosed that the aim of the event is to merge the budding brand with the very fabric of the grassroot and community movement.

According to Baird, “ANSA McAL is pleased to be associated with yet another sporting event specifically football at the grassroot level. Having been a former player (Georgetown call-up) and a proud product of the ghetto that was given a chance, I am elated to stage the inaugural Community Cup under the [prestigious] Dragon Stout brand which is being aligned and positioned to be a grassroots flag bearer.”

He revealed, “The primary stimulus for staging this football event is to highlight and indicate Dragon Stout’s intended support for sports at the grassroot and community levels, hence there was no hesitation since it’s aligned with the brand’s vision, which is to engage in community driven initiatives. This is an alliance or partnership that I envision will continue for the foreseeable future.”

Baird further affirmed, “Given that it is a community based initiative, it gives the urban community a chance to be seen and heard while having fun in a competitive but friendly environment.”
