Golden Warriors edge wales 3-2 in WDFA league

Golden Warriors edged Wales by a 3-2 score in the West Demerara Football Association [WDFA] Senior League yesterday at the Goed Fortuin Community Center ground.

Texwayne Fraser broke the deadlock in favour of Wales in the fifth minute, directing a powerful header past the opposing custodian after latching onto a cross inside the penalty box.

Golden Warriors equalised in the 40th minute through Delon Layne. It would be the first of two conversions for Layne, who upon receiving the ball 24 yards from goal uncorked a powerful shot which sailed into the back of the net.

However, Wales responded to retake the lead in the 45th minute via a Kempton Boyce conversion.

A free-kick outside the box would lead to the goal, as a cross into the box was allowed to bounce, allowing the onrushing forward to direct his header effort beyond the custodian.

Upon the resumption, Golden Warriors levelled proceedings in the 52nd minute through Okallie Gibson.

It was the simplest of conversions, as Gibson raced onto a through pass inside the box, before finishing past the goalkeeper into the far corner. The come-from-behind win was then sealed in the 65th minute compliments of a Layne effort.

The conversion completed the brace for Layne, who rose above his marker inside the area to place his headed attempt into the back of the goal. The tournament will resume on Saturday.
