A city magistrate is expected to commence the trial of Darryl John, who was freed months ago of ecstasy possession charges, on a charge of trafficking the drug.

The charge against John alleges that between December 1st, 2017 and January 21st, 2018, he trafficked ecstasy tablets to minors.

On September 4th, Customs Anti-Narcotic Unit (CANU) prosecutor Konyo Sandiford informed the court that advice would have to be sought on whether or not they would proceed with the charge. During a hearing yesterday, the CANU prosecutor informed Senior Magistrate Leron Daly that the prosecution would be proceeding with the charge.

Magistrate Daly later adjourned the matter until October 22nd, when the trial is expected to commence.

John, during a previous court hearing, had a charge of possession two grammes of ecstasy pills dismissed on the grounds that there was insufficient evidence led by the prosecution to prove that the defendant had the drug or that it was indeed a narcotic.

The dismissal is being appealed by CANU.
