Norton St woman had ganja in room – court hears

A woman, who is a witness in a murder case, was released on bail when she appeared at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court yesterday accused of having marijuana in her room for trafficking.

Rosanne Garraway, 55, of Lot 71 Norton Street, Lodge, appeared before Principal Magistrate Faith McGusty and denied ownership of 39 grammes of marijuana. It is alleged that on October 5th, 2019 at her Norton Street home, Garraway had in her possession 39 grammes of cannabis for the purpose of trafficking.

According to information provided by her attorney, Garraway’s home was raided by the police because it was suspected that her son would have the illicit substance. He said that at the time of the bust, his client was not the only person present in the house and she wasn’t the only person arrested for illegal possession of the drug.

Police Prosecutor Annalisa Brummell told the court that on the day in question, the police found the drug in Garraway’s bedroom. The officers had asked to check her room, which, at the time, was locked. Upon searching the room, the marijuana was found, the prosecutor said. She added that when the police confronted Garraway, she admitted that she boils the marijuana and drinks it.

After the prosecutor presented that information, Garraway’s attorney said that his client would most likely adhere to any conditions of bail since she is already cooperating with the police for a murder case.

However, the prosecutor pointed out to the court that in the matter in which Garraway is cooperating, she is the witness while in this matter, she is the defendant.

The magistrate agreed that in this situation, the stakes are higher. She granted Garraway bail in the sum of $60,000. She then advised the woman to make all efforts to attend court on November 6th.
