Rosignol pensioner admits killing girlfriend in 2018

A Rosignol, West Coast Berbice pensioner, who was charged last year with the murder of his girlfriend, on Thursday pleaded guilty to manslaughter when he appeared in the High Court in Berbice.

Leonard Allan, 64, of Lot 69 Burnham Avenue, Rosignol Village, was charged with the murder of Shabana Babita Ishack, 40, committed on July 3rd, 2018.

It is alleged that the duo was engaged in a drinking spree on the day in question when Allan began to physically assault the woman since he was unhappy with the meal she had prepared for dinner.

Allan, after beating the woman to death, remained until police arrived and arrested him.

According to a post-mortem examination, Ishack died as a result of bronchoaspiration and multiple injuries. 

On Thursday last, Allan appeared before Justice Brassington Reynolds and pleaded guilty to the lesser count of manslaughter. He will return to court on October 29th for sentencing. Prior to sentencing, a probation report will be presented on Allan’s behalf.
