The Guyana Cricket Board (GCB) recently made a donation to the East Ruimveldt Community Enhancement Committee in efforts to promote and contribute to cricket development in the area.

“The Guyana Cricket Board continued its collaborative growth initiative by making valuable contribution of cricket gear to the East Ruimveldt Community Enhancement Committee,” a release said.

It added: “A member of the said committee indicated that they were pleased that the GCB saw it fit to donate the gear. She indicated that these will go a far way in helping to introduce and develop the cricketing skills of the players.”

According to the release, a member of the Enhancement Committee opined that “as it relates to cricket, the objectives East Ruimveldt Community Enhancement Committee were likely to be aligned with the GCB, since their committee possesses plans and designed programmes, that once implemented effectively, will ensure that young children become involved in the sport, are kept motivated in the same, and are able to grasp crucial fundaments relating to the game – basis laws, techniques, discipline and accountability, fair-play and unity.”

Selena Bacchus, Assistant Administrator of the GCB, commended the committee for taking steps to ensure that cricket is played in their community and at their ground.

The GCB administrator posited that the nursery of cricket is created at the grassroots level, including the communities and from the schools.

The East Ruimveldt Community Enhancement Committee received the timely contribution from GCB on October 19, 2019, and coincided with the committee’s Community Sports Day and Mini Expo.
