Blue stuns field to take ANSA McAl’s Dewar Golf tourney

Newbie, Eion Blue stunned a large group of golfers on Saturday to stroll off with the ANSA McAl-sponsored Dewar’s Golf Classic at the Lusignan Golf Course.

An early tee off on an excellent green field coupled with a cool start ensured Blue bested the field with an astonishing gross of 92 with a net 64 coming from a 28 handicap playing in the ‘C’ Flight.

Blue explained that he had a decent day in the field and could not single out a particular area but credited an all-round performance.

In Blue’s category he was trailed by Guillermo Escarraga (70/19) in second and Bholawram Deo (71/19) who secured third after winning the tie against Videsh Persaud on the back nine. Jordi Pinol (73/28) and Maurice Solomon (73/26) were also exceptional.

In the ‘B’ (10-18 handicap), Satrohan Tiwari stood above the rest with a 67/14 score while Parmanand Persaud (68/13) secured the runner-up spot with Mike Gayadin (71/12) taking third. Gayadin had the better of Mahindranauth Tiwari (71/12) and Lekhnarine Shivraj (71/15).

Meanwhile, in the championship flight, former Guyana Open champion, Alfred Mentore showed his superiority with a score of 68/2. Mentore was trailed by Patrick Prashad (70/8) and Mike Mangal (72/8) in second and third respectively.

In the 0-9 Flight, former Guyana Open champion Alfred Mentore forged ahead of the other champions in his group. Winners were: 1st – Alfred Mentore (68/9); 2nd – Patrick Prashad (70/8); and 3rd – Mike Mangal (72/8). They were closely followed by Jaipaul Suknanan (73/9), Kassim Khan (73.8) and Monnaf Arjune (75/9).

Ten-time Guyana Open Champion, Avinash Persaud won the Best Gross and Longest Drive while Mike Mangal won the Nearest to the Pin and Bob Effergelt copped the Most Honest Golfer award.
