Theatre Guild hosts second Georgetown Connection of Rupununi festival

The Rupununi Music and Arts Festival comes to Georgetown and the Theatre Guild will play host. Billed for November 22 and 23, the festival, dubbed GT2, will captivate audiences with music, dance, spoken word, comedy, and art and craft.

According to the festival’s website, this is the fifth year of the festival and its second Georgetown Connection and a mix of local and international artistes will entertain. From St Lucia comes Reggae artiste Semi and band, from Trinidad & Tobago, violinist David Frank and Marva Newton and Kairi Kaiso, from the UK and Ukraine Rob Rosa and Iryna Muha, from Suriname, MAYA. Local artistes expected to appear include Young Bill Rogers, Gavin Mendonca and Marlon ‘Chucky’ Adams, Chow Pow, Vanilla, the Calibro Band, the Mighty Pakuri, Ras Camo, Ol’ Man Papi and Janey Gal, Braddar, Buxton Fusion, Herbie Marshall, Ovid Williams and Selector Shaw.

There will also be Indigenous, Indian and Contemporary dance workshops and performances as well as a Masterclass in Jazz Guitar by Marshall.

A special feature ‘Talk Tent’ is set for Saturday afternoon and will create a small intimate space where the audience will be able to engage with the artistes directly as they share stories on their musical journeys. The session geared to be of a more relaxed and casual atmosphere will give the audience a chance to ask questions.

The festival is affordable; day passes cost $3,000 and a weekend pass costs $5,000. Tickets are available at Zoon in Middle Street and at Giftland Mall, Howard’s Restaurant in Eccles, and at MovieTowne. Festival goers can call 629-4535/626-9014 to reserve tickets.
