Gold is Money, Showstoppers and Sophia sealed their respective berths to the knockout round in the Inaugural Rio Indoor Street-ball Championship on Thursday at the National Gymnasium, Mandela Avenue.
Gold is Money made light work of Island All-Stars 6-3. Keifer Brandt recorded a hat-trick in the fifth, eighth and 17th minute, Adding goals were Jamal Pedro, Randolph Wagner and Phillip Rowley in the second, 10th and 14th minute each.
For Island All-Stars, Quincy McDonald, Devon Hyman and Rory Lewis netted in the third, seventh and 15th minute respectively.
Similarly Showstoppers dismantled Future Stars 5-2. Delon Lanferman smashed a brace in the fourth and eighth minute. The other conversions came off the boots of Lennox Wilson, Keanu Lawrence and Stephon Jupiter scored in the 16th, 17th and 19th minute apiece.
For Future Stars, Jamal Cozier scored in the sixth and 11th minute. Likewise, Sophia defeated Gaza Squad 2-0 via conversions from Elroy George and Mervin Morris in the fourth and eighth minute each.
In other results, Bent Street mauled Avocado Ballers 4-1, while Kingston crushed Melanie 4-0. On the other hand, Back Circle blanked Spot-7 by a 4-0 scoreline and Tiger Bay edged Ol Skool 3-2.
The event resumes at the same venue today with another round of group matches. Island All-Stars tackle Gaza Squad from 19:00hrs, while Rio All-Stars battle Spot-7 at 19:30hrs and Stabroek Ballers engage Albouystown at 20:00hrs.
In the fourth match, Avocado Ballers will match skills with LA Ballers from 20:30hrs, while BV faces-off with Bent Street at 21:00hrs and Gold is Money lock horns with Sophia. In the final match, Sparta Boss takes aim Alexander Village from 22:00hrs.
