Trinidad: Female off-duty cop, friend shot

(Trinidad Guardian) Po­lice are in­ves­ti­gat­ing the shoot­ing of an­oth­er po­lice of­fi­cer in one day.

Ac­cord­ing to po­lice re­ports, 31-year-old Jew­el Whar­ton-Prescott of Ari­ma was shot in Mal­abar on Sat­ur­day night.

 
The of­fi­cer, who is at­tached to the Ad­ju­tant SRP Of­fice lo­cat­ed at River­side Plaza, Port-of-Spain, was off-du­ty at the time.

Po­lice say the in­ci­dent oc­curred around 10:20 pm, as Whar­ton-Prescott was dri­ving a white Corol­la in Mal­abar.

She was ac­com­pa­nied by 36-year-old Ayan­na Mc Each­nie-At­tle.

Re­ports in­di­cate that as they were pro­ceed­ing east along Lennox Year­wood Car­riage­way near Bell­bird Av­enue, Mal­abar, a ve­hi­cle pulled along­side them and the oc­cu­pants opened fire.

 
Whar­ton-Prescott was shot in the ab­domen and left hand while McEach­nie-At­tle was shot in the right leg.

They were both tak­en to the Ari­ma Health Fa­cil­i­ty where they were treat­ed be­fore be­ing trans­ferred to the Er­ic Williams Med­ical Sci­ences Com­plex.

Hours be­fore this in­ci­dent, an­oth­er off-du­ty po­lice of­fi­cer was shot in Ari­ma.

Cpl Fox who is as­signed to the North East­ern Di­vi­sion Emer­gency Re­sponse Pa­trol was at­tacked in a rob­bery in the Pin­to dis­trict on Sat­ur­day morn­ing.

Re­ports in­di­cate Cpl Fox had gone to a me­chan­ic shop at Right­eous Lane, Pin­to when he was am­bushed by three men, all of whom are known to the po­lice.

It was re­port­ed that dur­ing the in­ci­dent, Fox was shot in the hand and stom­ach. They al­so took his gold chain.

Fox was tak­en to the Ari­ma Health Fa­cil­i­ty and lat­er trans­ferred to the Er­ic Williams Med­ical Sci­ences Com­plex where he was treat­ed and ward­ed.

Act­ing on in­for­ma­tion, of­fi­cers went to a house close to where the in­ci­dent oc­curred and de­tained one man.

Fol­low­ing a search of the sus­pect’s house, of­fi­cers re­port­ed­ly re­trieved a firearm.

Up to late Sat­ur­day, of­fi­cers con­tin­ued to search for the two oth­er sus­pects. Po­lice said that ar­rests are im­mi­nent.
