Arts and fashion festival touted as fantastical production

Next Saturday night art and fashion will take over the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall when Hibiscus House of Fashion hosts its Festival of Arts and Fashion Show. This production will feature many new artists and some familiar ones.

There will be performances by a number of singers and dancers. The event has also attracted local entrepreneurs who will exhibit jewelry, craft, wigs and natural soaps among other products. On stage, one of the models, who is also an artist, will have a scene to himself where his work will be on display.

CEO of Hibiscus Couture House of Fashion Denise Jennings told The Scene that this event will be one that will be talked about for a long time. The many twists and surprises onstage will certainly be a treat for the audience. This show, the designer said, is not the ordinary fashion show where the evening is taken up with just models walking the runway but is more of a production with different and engaging scenes.

In addition to the executive team, there is also a planning committee working towards making the arts and fashion festival a success.

Denise, who spent 20 years in Barbados designing returned three years ago. While she is well-known in the Caribbean country for her artistic pieces in couture and costumes, Denise felt it was time that Guyana got to know one of its own.

It was said that more than 40 models will be involved in the show, some of whom are modelling for the first time. The age range of the models, both male and female are from teens up and include plus-size models also. Denise is showing 19 pieces in the couture category and 13 in the couture gents wear. Saturday night will get even hotter with exotic swimwear for both men and women.

The creative director said this event will be nothing short of dynamic. “This is going to be an atmosphere of atmospheres, an event of events. I’m training the models, dealing with the production of the show and doing all the choreography for the various scenes, working with the singers, dancers and musicians,” Oral said. “This arts and fashion festival will be combining all the arts together in a theatrical way. We have been rehearsing for three months now, three times a week. It’s coming along fantastic. Everything is done and we’re just doing finishing touches now. People are wondering why the sports hall for the venue but when we are done transforming the court our runway will be in the shape of a ‘Y’.”

The event is expected to be a full three-hour show and begins at 7 pm. Tickets are $3,000, $5,000 and VVIP $7,000. Persons getting the VVIP tickets will be seated at the stage front and will have the convenience of wines and finger foods. Tickets can be purchased from any of the models and from Teamstoby Smoothies at Giftland Mall.
