The Rahaman family along with the Ministry of Business held its annual Christmas tree light up on Friday evening at the Rahaman’s Park Triangle.

Following the passing of Ruth Marjorie Rahaman in August of this year, the Rahaman family wanted to continue the tradition that she held very dear to her heart, according to her son, Ray Rahaman. The family also used the light up to announce that with the passing of Ruth, her grandson, Elan Rahaman, would be carrying on the tradition on her behalf.

The yearly event usually attracts residents from Rahaman’s Park and villages on the East Bank Demerara, who see the tree light up as a symbol of the start of the season of giving on the East Bank. With that sentiment in mind, a Santa Claus was also in attendance and shared gifts to the children of some of the villages who were attendance.

Also present was the Minister of Business, Haimraj Rajkumar, who thanked the Rahaman family on behalf of the Ministries and the President for keeping the 14-year old tradition alive.
