Body of farmer found floating in Pomeroon River

The body of a 53-year-old farmer was yesterday morning found floating in the Pomeroon River and it is suspected that he might have drowned.

The dead man has been identified as Winston Alberta called “Jim” of Akawini Creek, Pomeroon River.

The incident occurred sometime between Saturday and yesterday at Akawini Creek Front, Pomeroon River.

Reports are that Alberta lived with his sister at Akawini Creek and would normally set his seine in the Pomeroon River which he would check  according to the tide.

He was last seen alive around 6pm on Saturday when he left home under the influence of alcohol in a paddle boat to check his seine.

However, after time elapsed and he did not return home, Alberta’s sister became worried and formed a search party.

The boat was found tied to a tree next to the Akawini Creek mouth but there was no sign of Alberta.

His body was discovered around 7.30 am yesterday by a male.

The police were summoned and Alberta’s body was examined. There was no visible mark of violence.

His remains are presently at the Suddie hospital mortuary awaiting an autopsy.
