No bail for man allegedly held with almost 100 lbs of ganja

A man accused of having 98 pounds of cannabis in his possession is now a remanded prisoner after being charged with possession of narcotics for trafficking.

Michael Haynes, 38, appeared yesterday in the courtroom of Principal Magistrate Sherdel Isaacs-Marcus in Georgetown, where he was charged with having 98 pounds of cannabis in his possession for the purpose of trafficking on November 29th, at Diamond Housing Scheme, East Bank Demerara.

Moments after the unrepresented man denied the charge, police prosecutor Adduni Inniss informed the court that on the day in question police ranks, acting on information, conducted a search at Haynes’ home. She said that after the ranks checked the man’s bedroom, they found the suspected cannabis in a plastic barrel. She also told the court that Haynes gave a caution statement while he was in custody. Haynes did not object to the information provided by the prosecutor. He was afterwards remanded until December 9th, when the matter will be called before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan.
