All mayors, deputies re-elected

At the conclusion of mayoral elections in the 10 municipalities across the country, all the Mayors and Deputy Mayors have been re-elected.

Information provided by the Ministry of Communities revealed that during the elections at councils, the Mayors and Deputy Mayors were unopposed and re-elected to govern their respective townships.

The elections were held between November 29th and December 11th. Elections in the Georgetown and in Bartica municipalities were the last two to be held.

During that election in Georgetown, Ubraj Narine and Alfred Mentore returned as Mayor and Deputy Mayor, respectively, while in the Bartica elections, Gifford Marshall was elected as Mayor, with Arita Peggy Embleton as the Deputy Mayor.

On December 10th, elections were held in the Linden and Lethem municipalities. These saw the re-election of Waneka Arrindell and Wainewright Bethune as the Linden Mayor and Deputy Mayor, respectively, while John Macedo and Debra King were returned to office as Mayor and Deputy Mayor in the Lethem council elections.

In the town of Mabaruma, Chris Phang and Carolyn Robinson were also returned to their substantive offices as Mayor and Deputy Mayor. David Adams and Juewayne Mendonca-Burrowes were also given the opportunity to return to office as Mayor and Deputy Mayor, respectively, of the Mahdia Township.

In Region 6, Chattergoon Ramnauth, and Deonauth Harrinarine were returned as Mayor and Deputy Mayor of Rose Hall, while Winifred Heywood and Wainwright McIntosh were returned as Mayor and Deputy Mayor of New Amsterdam, and Winston Roberts and Imran Amin were returned as Mayor and Deputy Mayor of Corriverton.

The re-elected mayors and deputy mayors will be administered their oaths of office before President David Granger before returning to perform their statutory functions.

The internal elections for Mayors and Deputy Mayors are held annually at the level of the respective councils. The new terms for the re-elected mayors and their deputies will begin on January 1st 2020.
