GFSCA sending U15 softball team to Florida for youth tournament

The Guyana Floodlight Softball Cricket Association (GFSCA) will be sending an Under 15 team to participate in the annual Cricket Council USA Open Youth Tournament to be held from December 20 – 23, 2019 at the ICC-approved Central Broward Regional Park, Lauderhill, Florida.

According to the body, the tournament, which has grown from strength to strength, is now in its 11th year for senior teams and third year for youths. This is the first time Guyana will have youth representation. Meanwhile, the management of the GFSCA indicated that they have started preparations with several practice sessions already completed.

As the weather permits, more sessions will be held at grounds in and around Georgetown. Two T20 practice matches will be held on December 17, 2019 against the Berbice powerhouse youth team in Blairmont. Several more should be played in Georgetown prior, the weather permitting.

The team will be led by Transport Sports Club and national youth player Alvin Mohabir. The contingent also consists of West Indies Under 15 batting star Mavendra Dindial, national youth all-rounder Zachary Jodha (vice-captain), Jonathan Van Lange and Demerara Under 15 opener Romeo Deonarain.

The management of the team is boosted by former West Indies Captain Ramnaresh Sarwan as Manager while Hubern Evans will perform coaching duties.

The full team reads: Alvin Mohabir, Nicholas Shiopersad, Gabriel Rookhum, Arun Gainda, Zachary Jodah, Romeo Deonarain, Nityanand Mathura, John Persaud, Mavendra Dindial, Jonathan Van Lange, Dave Mohabir, Ravindra Singh, Stephon Sankar and Premkumar Permaul.
