A taxi-driver was remanded to prison yesterday after he was charged with the rape of a 12-year-old girl.
Sahadeo Pooran, 30, called ‘Omesh’ appeared before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan in the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court One.
He was not required to plead to the indictable charge, which stated that on September 27th, 2019 at Herstelling, East Bank Demerara, he engaged in sexual penetration with a 12-year-old child.
According to the information provided, Pooran picked up the girl at the head of Mocha Road and took her to his home in Herstelling where he committed the act.
He was remanded to prison until December 30th, 2019.
