Bel Air Park businessman robbed of millions after leaving bank

A businessman was yesterday robbed of millions of dollars after he left a city bank.

Police Region 4 (a) commander, E. Thomas, confirmed to Stabroek News that a robbery did occur in the Bel Air Park area. The commander revealed that initial investigations showed that the victim whose name was not provided, had left a city bank after withdrawing a sum of money to pay contractors and upon his arrival at the destination at Jacaranda Avenue, Bel Air Park was ambushed by bandits and robbed.

When Stabroek News visited the scene of the crime which occurred around 14:20hrs, police investigators were already there and the victim declined to speak to the media about the incident.

However, it was observed that one of the rear windows of the vehicle that the victim was driving at the time, was broken and glass was left scattered on the ground.

In CCTV footage of the incident which was seen by Stabroek News, it was observed that shortly after the victim had arrived at the location and appeared to be parked on a bridge, a silver-coloured  Toyota Premio motor car pulled up behind the vehicle. Two men then exited the front and rear passenger side of the vehicle and committed the act. The men then made their escape in the same motorcar. A spate of similar robberies has occurred in recent years.
