Woman charged with wounding university student

A 42-year-old woman was granted bail yesterday after she was charged with wounding a university student.

Charmaine De Mendonca of Lot 330 Grove Housing Scheme appeared before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan in the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court One. After inquiring if she was the wife of a GDF officer, the Chief Magistrate recused herself from the matter which was subsequently transferred to the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court Five.

Principal Magistrate Faith McGusty thereafter read the charge during an in-camera hearing. The charge stated that on December 6th, 2019 at Irving Street in the vicinity of Camp Ayanganna, Georgetown, De Mendonca unlawfully and maliciously wounded Emily Emon

De Mendonca pleaded not guilty to the charge. She was granted bail in the sum of $25,000 and the matter was adjourned until January 13th, 2020.
