Businessman accused of submitting forged invoices to GRA

A businessman was recently charged with submitting a total of $22 million in forged invoices to the Guyana Revenue Authority (GRA).

Darwin David, 39, of Lot 11 Vlissengen Road, Georgetown, appeared before Principal Magistrate Faith McGusty in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts on seven counts of fraud.

The charges stated that on June 24th, 2019, at Camp Street, Georgetown, with intent to defraud, he uttered to Candacie McGregor seven forged invoices, valued at a total of $22,441,903.15, dated from May 20, 2016, to September 24, 2018, purporting to show that same were issued by the Giftland OfficeMax.

Attorney Sase Gunraj, who represented the businessman, asked that his client be released on reasonable bail.

The police prosecutor did not disclose facts in the matter, nor did she object to bail being granted to David, a father of one.

Bail was granted to the man in the sum $140,000 and he was instructed to make his next court appearance on January 8th, 2020.
