The newly-installed Levi Nedd-led Guyana Volleyball Federation (GVF) is set to swing into action on Sunday as they host the federation’s inaugural Diamond Mineral Water male and female Beach Volleyball Tournament at the Marriott Beach Front.

Action will serve off from 8:00hrs with in excess of 20 teams from Demerara, Berbice and Essequibo set to vie for top honours in the knock-out tournament.

The top two teams will receive trophies and other prizes.

There is also an added incentive for those who will be on show on Sunday with the tournament being pegged as a selection criteria for Guyana’s Beach Volleyball team which will participate in a beach volleyball Olympic Qualifier in Argentina in March, 2019.

Nedd, speaking with Stabroek Sport ahead of the tournament – the first under his stewardship as President – said that the hosting of the tournament is critical for the selection of the Guyana team and moreso as mandated by the Guyana Olympic Association (GOA).

“It was mandatory by the GOA and we had to fulfil that mandate,” Nedd told Stabroek Sport.

He added: “To be free and fair, we had to do a national tournament to select these people [national team] … we had to meet the requirement of the GOA,” Nedd stressed.
