Chesney, Courtland secure first round wins

The Berbice Cricket Board on Sunday bowled off the Spready’s Snackette 100-ball tournament with five matches  across the lower Corentyne with Chesney, Courtland, Whim, Rose Hall Town Tigers and Fyrish recording  opening round victories.

At Jai Hind Ground, Courtland visited and conquered the home side by a 27-run margin. Courtland batted first and posted 130,  dismissed in the 15th over.   Jamal Kurt top scored with 31 and John Percival supported with 19. J. Ramdat and off break bowler, R. Ranjalh were the key bowlers with 2-33 and 3-8 respectively.

In reply, Percival returned to capture 4-10 with his medium pace while Keon Sinclair grabbed 1-25 to restrict Jai Hind to 103. T. Baldeo was the only batsman to show form with a composed 53.

At Hampshire, Chesney squeezed out a two-wicket victory over Tamarind Root. Tamarind Root reached 130-9 from their allotted overs constructed around Prem Deonarine’s 65 and Vishal Mangal’s 23.

S. Bacchus (3-16) and A. Deonarine (2-28) were the leading wicket-takers. In the chase, Chesney scampered to 131-8 from 15.2 overs.  S. Subador top scored with 28 while Imran Khan (26) and Krishna Amoi (18) played  important cameos.

In the other contests, Topoo were defeated by six wickets at the hands of Whim while Rose Hall Town Tigers secured a 16-run victory over Albion open at Port Mourant and Fyrish secured a 67-run drubbing over Kilcoy.
