The Guyana Table Tennis Association (GTTA) is set to host its 2019 national schools scouting, novices and elite table tennis championship from February 1-3, 2019 at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall (CASH).

The championships, which will be held in collaboration with the National Sports Commission (NSC), will feature students from schools across the country who are 18 years and under, born on or before January 1, 2001.

They will compete in  teams and singles category. The initiative is geared towards unearthing emerging talent but also to promote the sport’s presence across the country.

The table tennis body, according to a release, will coordinate the tournament’s fixtures and will provide umpires, tables, balls among other resources to ensure the smooth running of the competition under the rules, regulations and authority of the International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF).

Medals will be presented to the winners, runners-up and third place finishers while the most outstanding players (male and female) will also receive awards. Prizes for the best-dressed school and the most discipline school are also up for grabs.

Interested schools are required to pay an entry fee of one thousand dollars which will ensure their participation. Meanwhile, representatives are urged to attend a technical meeting on January 31, 2019, to guide each school’s participation.
