Top Form, Goalers among teams through to main draw

New Amsterdam [NA] Kings-B, Canje Warriors, Top Form and Goalers sealed their respective berths to the main draw in the Guinness ‘Greatest of the Streets’ Berbice Zone, following playoff wins on Friday at the Scott Schools ground.  

NA Kings-B dismantled Fast-7 by a 2-0 score. Kevin Williams etched his name on the scorer’s sheet in the 13th minute, following a scoreless first half period.

The game was then put to bed in the 19th minute, as A. Austin found the back of the net.

Meanwhile, Top Form grounded Black Hawks 1-0. Sherlock Phillips made his presence in the second half, as he recorded the only goal in the 20th minute.

Identically, Canje Warriors arrested Constabulary 1-0. Sherwin Parris was the difference on the night with an 18th minute conversion.

Matching the aforementioned result was Goalers, who defeated Rose Hall. Lendy Harmon sent his side into the main draw with a 13th minute effort.

Among the other teams that have already qualified for the main tournament slated to commence on March 8th are champion Trafalgar, No. #28, Hopetown, Outsiders, Twenties, NA Kings, Dam Boys and Lichfield.

According to tournament coordinator Phillip Carrington, “All systems are in place for the smooth staging of the tournament. I expect it to be a very competitive tournament, the teams and players have to simply go out and play because football is played on the field.”

He further said, “The anticipation is in the air for the event, all the players and fans are looking forward to the tournament. It is in the media and constantly being announced here so we should expected a fantastic event.”

The tournament is slated to be staged over three nights, with the second evening pegged for March 9th. The grand finale will be hosted on March 16th.
