LONDON, CMC – Veteran Jamaican international Wes Morgan covered himself in glory when he produced a brilliant late header, as 10-man Leicester City snatched a 2-1 victory at Burnley in a dramatic finish in the Premier League yesterday.
Ushered on unexpectedly after England’s Harry Maguire was sent off in the fourth minute at Turf Moor, the 35-year-old defender wrapped his head around Youri Tielemans’ cross to beat Tom Heaton in the uprights, with time ticking away in the 90th minute.
Despite being a man down, the Foxes had earlier taken the lead in the 33rd minute through James Maddison’s free-kick before the hosts hit back through Dwight McNeil five minutes later.
The second half seemed destined to end goalless with a point for each side before Morgan’s sublime finish silenced the home fans.
Newly appointed manager, Brendan Rodgers, afterwards praised Morgan’s contribution.
“He’s a really good guy. I am so happy for him, and he got a round of applause in the changing room after, which he deserved as it was a fantastic header,” Rodgers said.
“He is a symbol of the dressing room. His history at Leicester is incredible.”
The victory was Leicester’s third in four games, moving them to 10th in the tables and past the 40-point safely mark in the league.
Burnley, meanwhile, remain 17th and just two points above the relegation zone.
