Trinidad and Tobago raced to their third straight win after defeating the Windward Islands by 51 runs in the third round of the Cricket West Indies Colonial Medical Insurance Women’s Super50 tournament at the Everest Cricket Club yesterday.
Trinidad won the toss and decided to take first strike. They posted 257-5 in their allotted overs while restricting the Windwards to 206-6 in their full quota.
The undefeated side were indebted to Stacy Ann King who blasted an undefeated 129-ball 79 that was decorated with six boundaries two of which were products of sweeping leg spinner, Afy Fletcher. Her innings was not that smooth after she was bowled off a free hit on 60 and dropped on 72.
King, 35 years old, partnered with opener, Rachel Vincent to put on 72 for the second wicket.
Vincent was equally aggressive as King, pounding nine boundaries in her 65-ball 59 which ended with her being trapped leg before wicket to Fletcher.
The left-handed batter went on to add 66 for the third wicket with Britney Cooper (23) who was dropped on the same score but it was a run-a-ball 43 from vice-captain, Reniece Boyce that spurred Trinidad past the 250-run land mark.
Boyce continued her superb form as she carved four boundaries on the off-side and ran the doubles hard. That unbroken sixth wicket union contributed 84 runs.
Pearl Etienne took 2-46 while Fletcher and Cordel Jack took one wicket each. Qiana Joseph sent down 13 deliveries before landing awkwardly and ending further participation in the contest.
In the chase, the Windwards produced their best batting performance of the tournament as Stacy Ann Adams, who was dropped on seven carried on constructively and scored 59 before she was caught behind, facing her 100th delivery. Adams hammered five boundaries and produced a 58-run partnership with Jack (24).
However, Fletcher returned to try bring her team closer to the target with 59 not out consisting of six boundaries while sharing 49 runs alongside Akeira Peters (26 not out).
Karishma Ramharack and Leandra Ramdeen took two wickets for 31 and 47 respectively.
