Guyana’s Trenace Lowe and Jody Ann-Blake were on Thursday evening defeated in the final of the women’s doubles category at the 2019 Caribbean Regional Table Tennis Federation (CRTTF) senior championship by their counterparts from the Dominican Republic at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall (CASH).

The duo, who had to settle for silver, were outdone by Esmerlyn Castro and Eva Brito 3-0 in a truncated finale.

Brito and Castro in the first set took an early 5-2 advantage but the Guyanese pair fought their way back to tie the set 6-6 before Castro and Brito pulled away to take the first set 11-6.

The second and third sets were much the same; characterized by spurts of fight from the Guyanese which was countered by the Dominican Republic duo who took the second and third 11-6, 11-7 to secure the title.

The Guyanese pair en route to the final defeated Antoinette Riley and Kenada King of Barbados 13-11, 11-6, 11-7.

The day also saw Lowe and Christopher Franklin collecting bronze in the mixed doubles category after they were defeated by eventual champions Isaac Vila and Castro of the Dominican Republic 2-3 in a keenly contested final in which they were ahead 10-8  in the deciding set but lost 10-12.

There was even more success for the hosts as Nigel Bryan and Joel Alleyne hustled their way to bronze in the men’s doubles category. Bryan and Alleyne both played with a lot of passion and defeated Livan Martinez and Babaro Oliva of Cuba 3-2 in an exciting quarter-final tussle before being stopped by Emile Santos and Samuel Galvez 3-0 in the semis.
