Police Sports Club (PSC), in sorry batting display, surrendered to Everest by 56 runs in the first semifinal of New Building Society second division forty overs tournament at the Demerara Cricket Club last evening under lights.

Police chasing 239 for victory and a place in the final, began their reply like a house on fire, racing to 111 without loss at the end of the 10th over.

Fireworks came off the bat of Andrew Lyght Jr who swatted nine huge sixes and a four in a savage knock of 72. However, his demise saw the cops folding for 182 in the 35th over as Kemol Savory (27) and number 11 batsman Raun Johnson (20*) were the only other batsmen to reach twenty in the collapse.

Skipper Dwayne Adams (3-13) led the fightback for Everest, snaring the scalps for Lyght and Savory. Roylex Payne (2-49) and Amir Khan (2-7) lent useful support for Everest who after winning the toss and batted, posted 238 all out in the 40th over.

Khan, a former first-class player, top scored with a fine knock of 65 while Manjrekar Bhola (56) and Rickie Looknauth (45) played handy knocks to set up what in the end was a winning total.

Kevin Leitch (3-40) and Johnson (2-39)

spearheaded Police’s efforts with the ball.

Everest will now take on either the Georgetown Club (GCC) or the Muslim Youth Organisation (MYO) who will clash today in the other semi at the same venue from 14:30hrs

Kevin Leitch was Police’s most successful bowler.
