If you are a fan of amateur boxing, then definitely the place to be from this evening is the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall to witness the fourth edition of the Caribbean Schoolboys and Juniors Tournament.

According to President of the Guyana Boxing Association Steve Ninvalle, all systems have the green light for the three-night international fixture which has attracted prospects from Barbados, Cayman Islands, Dominica, Grenada, St Lucia and Trinidad and Tobago.

Ninvalle said that he expects the local pugilists to be sternly tested by their opponents especially those from Trinidad and Tobago and the Cayman Islands, but was confident of them retaining the top honours.

“Our boxers are fully prepared,” said the GBA head. “They are prepared more than ever before for any competition of this nature due to the fact of our encampment.”

Ninvalle reminded that the national boxers were under the watchful eyes of Sebert Blake and others throughout the last 10 weeks in preparation for the tournament.

He said that the tournament will have a high calibre of officiating.

International Boxing Association Three-Star Referee/Judge James Beckles and David Brown from Trinidad and Tobago are in Guyana. Besides them are Josez Faddoul of Dominica and Audrey Sabas of Guadeloupe.

Said Ninvalle, “We think the competition has grown each year and we are thankful for the development and the sponsors that have come onboard.”

The event which concludes on Sunday, starts at 18:00hrs nightly. Admission is listed at $500 for the stands and $1500 ringside.
