The Georgetown Cricket Association (GCA) is moving apace to bowl off the 2020 cricket season during the coming weekend and chairman of the association’s competition committee Shaun Massiah is calling on all affiliates for their continued support.

“As we resume I am looking forward to the continued cooperation and relationship with all the clubs and hope the clubs make their grounds available for the smooth running of GCA cricket of which their cricketing members are longing to play cricket on a consistent basis rather than having to play matches two and three weeks apart,” Massiah said.

He reiterated the importance of organizing tournaments at the association level which is to aid in the overall development of cricket in the region. In doing so he called for clubs to widen their pool of players.

“I also want to remind them that our (GCA) mandate is to develop players capable of representing GCA association, Demerara, Guyana, and West Indies with distinction… in order for this to happen, clubs need to give their players the opportunity to play and not to depend too much on players that have gone on to the high level even though to win all competitions is the goal. In this whole development plan, you may lose some and win some while giving the opportunity to play,” he underscored.

The upcoming season, according to the committee chair, will see the conclusion of a number of tournaments including the New Building Society (NBS) 40 overs, second division tournament, the Noble House Seafoods, second division, two-day tournament and GISE, Star Party Rental and Trophy Stall first-division competition. Sponsorship to run off a number of other tournaments, especially at the junior levels are being sought. Massiah said the association welcomes the support of corporate Guyana.

Further, he also advised that the transfer window period is still open and will be closed on the 31 January 2020. Clubs are therefore asked to submit all new registered and current players on or before 7 February 202.
