A father along with his son who were charged with assaulting a police officer were granted bail at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court yesterday.

Abuna Welcome, 42, and his son, Akea Welcome, 19, were before Principal Magistrate Faith McGusty at the City court when they both pleaded not guilty to two charges, one being assault of an officer.

It is alleged that on January 12th, 2020, at Cornhill Street, both men assaulted Julius Caesar, a police officer acting in the execution of his duties. It was further alleged that on the same date and at the same location, they resisted arrest by Julius Caesar, a police officer.

The duo was granted bail in the sum of $10,000 for each charge and told to return to the court on a later date in January for the commencement of the trial in the matter.
