Friendship man wanted over gold miner’s murder

A Friendship, East Bank Demerara resident is wanted by the police in connection with the murder of a gold miner, Akeem Caesar, who was fatally shot more than a week ago.

In a wanted bulletin issued yesterday, the police said Devon Harris, 40, is wanted for questioning over the murder of Caesar, which occurred on March 3rd at Blackwater Back-dam, Konawaruk, Mahdia, Region Eight.

Stabroek News had reported that Caesar, a resident of Linden, was shot once to one of his legs and gun-butted during the attack.

The suspect fled the scene.

The police had said that Caesar and his friends were at a shop drinking when an argument ensued between him and another man. This resulted in a physical encounter before they were eventually separated.

The police explained that Ceaser was standing on the road conversing with the man he had been fighting with when he was approached by another man, who was armed with a gun. “The gunman then allegedly shot the victim (Caesar) once in the left foot, gun butted him in the head and fled the scene,” the police had noted.

Caesar was taken to the Mahdia District Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
