Teachers should be given some official public notice of these vacancies

Dear Editor,

I note that the Sunday Stabroek of February 23 carried a notice by the Teaching Service Commission (TSC) viz. “Vacancy Notice, 2020” which listed a number of senior vacancies in the public education service. The Notice indicates: “The Closing Date for a COPY of each Application to reach the Teaching Service Commission/School Boards Secretariat from each Applicant is 15:30h on Friday, March 20, 2020.”

I note, too, that as one of its response initiatives in respect of the coronavirus pandemic, the Ministry of Education has closed all schools with effect from Monday, March 16 for two (2) weeks in the first instance.

I expect that many teachers will use the opportunity to return to and/or stay at their basic home address, and so may no longer have ready access to the signatures required on any application form they wish to submit for any senior vacancy for which they consider themselves eligible to apply.

Should not some consideration be given to such teachers via some public, official notice?

Just wondering!

Over to you, Teaching Service Com-mission and School Boards Secretariat and Guyana Teachers’ Union.

Yours faithfully,

George N. Cave.
