Two months in prison for mountain bike thief

A man was yesterday sentenced to two months imprisonment, after being charged with simple larceny.

Carl Fredericks made his appearance before Magistrate Faith McGusty, in a Georgetown city court, to answer to the charge.

It was alleged that on March 17th, 2020, at Regent Street and Orange Walk, Georgetown, Fredericks stole one mountain bike, valued $21,000 from Sheer Zuman.

When Fredericks was asked to enter a plea, he pleaded guilty, but told the court that the virtual complainant had lent him the bicycle to purchase high wine and cocaine, but he was robbed on his way back.

Zuman denied knowing the defendant, and told the court that he was on Orange Walk purchasing pastries, when Fredericks picked up his bicycle and rode off.

Magistrate Faith McGusty then entered a not guilty plea for Fredericks and the matter was transferred to Court 11.

He was then sentenced to two months imprisonment by Magistrate Annette Singh.
