Mabaruma’s Barbina XI defeated Sebai XI by seven wickets to win the 15-overs-a-side friendly hardball competition Sunday at Sebai Recreational Ground, Sebai Village, Port Kaituma, Region One.

Barbina won the toss and inserted the hosts on a lively pitch and under scorching sunshine but the capacity crowd was left in shock as their home side were kept to 95 for six off their allotted overs. Opener, Danny Benjamin top scored with 33 and was supported by Devon Benjamin with 16 and Randolph Benjamin who made 13 not out.

Owen James returned two for 15 from his two overs while Orison Sealy (1-10), Elwin De Souza (1-15) and Ozell Campbell (1-23) picked up a wicket each.

In the chase, the visitors reached 96 for three, winning with 25 balls to spare. Sealy returned to hammer six sixes and one four in a destructive innings of 55 at the top of the order. His opening partner, Ainsworth Pritchard chipped in with 16 but was a mere spectator to Sealy’s assault on the toothless bowling. Anthony Brown then sealed the victory with a flourishing 11. The two sides are expected to clash in another friendly in Mabaruma this weekend.
