Bandits invade Blairmont house, escape with cash, jewellery

Three masked bandits, one armed with a gun and the others armed with a cutlass each, pounced on a Blairmont family on Sunday evening and escaped with  cash and jewellery.

Sohanram Ramoutar, 25, Acting Field Foreman, of Lot 35 Zorg-en-Hoop, Blairmont Village, West Bank Berbice, yesterday said the three bandits invaded their house sometime around 7. 45 pm on Sunday.

According to Ramoutar, who resides with his parents, sister, brother-in-law and nephew, they were all downstairs when the bandits entered. “They pointed the gun at me and demanded cash and jewellery”.

However, while one bandit stood guard over the occupants of the house, another proceeded to the upper flat to search for valuables, while the third remained outside as the lookout.

The men carted off Ramoutar’s wallet which contained $23,500 and other items, along with his gold ring and gold band which they discovered in his room.

He said the men also searched several women’s purses in the house but after failing to find anything they made good their escape.

It is suspected, that the bandits gained entry to Ramoutar’s house through the back gate, which was left opened, from the dam behind their house. The men also made their escape the same way.

Police have launched an investigation, however, no-one was arrested as of yesterday.
