The police are on the hunt for a man who allegedly shot and killed a labourer on Wednesday night at Middle Mazaruni River.
Dead is Barnwell Thomas, called ‘Barney,’ who was shot once in his chest.
The suspect reportedly fled the scene and was yet to be apprehended up to last evening.
The police, in a press release issued yesterday, said that enquiries disclosed that Thomas was at the suspect’s Tamaki Farback Backdam, Middle Mazaruni River, camp, where he also operates a shop. He had been drinking.
A loud explosion was heard around 9 pm.
Shortly after, the police said, Thomas exited the premises and related to persons who were present that he was shot by the suspect.
Minutes after, he collapsed.
Thomas’ body was yesterday escorted to Bartica for a post-mortem examination.
