Biker hospitalised in serious condition after New Road accident

An accident on the Essequibo Coast on Friday afternoon has left a motorcyclist hospitalised in a serious condition.

Maxwell Lawrie, 23, of Lot 2 Better Success, Essequibo Coast, is currently admitted as a patient in the Male Surgical Ward of the Suddie Hospital nursing injuries about his body, including to his head.

Sunday Stabroek understands that the accident occurred along the New Road Public Road around 1.30 pm.

Lawrie was proceeding west along the southern lane of the public road on motorcycle CJ 5754 when the accident occurred.

At the time, he was reportedly speeding.

While negotiating a right turn, he reportedly lost control of the motorcycle and ended up in a nearby trench.

Lawrie was picked up in an unconsciousness condition by public-spirited citizens and taken to the Oscar Joseph Hospital, where he was treated before later being referred to Suddie Hospital.

Up to yesterday afternoon, he remained hospitalised. His condition was listed as serious.
