Oil is dead

Dear Editor,

I do not possess the erudition of the learned gentlemen who have shared their views on this topic on your comments page, thus I am joining the fray with trepidation.  Allow me, however, to address Ms. Janki.

Melinda, thank you.  I am humbled by your arguments but must express my admiration for their clarity of interpretation of the law.

Please accept my apologies for vilifying you publicly for your views on oil.  You were right and I was wrong and nature has conspired to prove me wrong and uphold your position.

Not only should the oil be left in the ground but it is dead as a lucrative product that causes men to lose their souls and nations to fight against nations leaving death, destruction and desolation in their wake.

Perhaps we should give more than a cursory glance at natural gas, a commodity which Guyana possesses in abundance.

Oil is dead. Long live natural gas.

Yours faithfully,

Elizabeth Alleyne
