Senior US official voices concern again about delayed election result

A senior US official today again lamented the delay in the finalization of Guyana’s election results and said this is a violation of the rights of the people of this country to a transparent electoral process.
In another of a series of tweets and statements by senior US officials about electoral shenanigans here, Michael Kozak, Head of the Bureau of Western Hemisphere Affairs delivered another salvo just a day after Washington had announced $100m for this country’s fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.
In a briefing at the US State Department in Washington in which he made opening remarks on Guyana and other countries, Kozak said: “Finally, it has been more than seven weeks since Guyana’s elections. There has been still no credible outcome. The Guyana Elections Commission has a preliminary work plan for a recount but has not issued a timeline. We remain gravely concerned that so much time has passed without a credible result. Further delays violate the Guyanese people’s rights to a transparent, credible, and timely electoral process.
“The relations we have with the governments and the people of the Western Hemisphere are very important to this administration. We will continue to stand with our friends as we confront the challenge of COVID-19, extend freedom throughout the region, and work to reignite economic prosperity for our citizens”.
Kozak recently summoned Guyana’s Ambassador to the US Riyad Insanally to express concerns about the delayed result and apparent moves to illegally swear in a President. Kozak and US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo have issued stark warnings about the repercussions for those who benefit from electoral fraud.
US Ambassador to Guyana Sarah-Ann Lynch has also issued a series of statements expressing concerns about the lack of credibility of the District Four count and the delay in the recount process.
