A mentally ill resident of Canal Number Two, West Bank Demerara, has been missing for a week and his family is offering a reward of $100,000 for his safe return.

Lalbachan Bhagwandat, 29, also known as “Jagan,” of Lot 11 North Section, Canal Number Two, was last seen around 10.30 pm on April 17.

His sister, Yashwantie Bhagwantie, yeterday told Stabroek News that family members were at a relative’s place opposite their home when Bhagwandat ran into the backyard and then into the backlands. Since then, he has not been seen or heard from.

A missing person report was filed at the Wales Police Station.

Yashwantie explained that her brother has been in treatment for mental illness but has refused to take his medication.

Against this background, the family is worried that Lalbachan might have wandered off and is experiencing difficulty in finding his way back home. “…He is not in his senses. If he actually was well, mentally, he would have been home already,” she said.

To date, several searches for Lalbachan have not yielded any results. “We never found him back… after numnerous searches in days and nights by relatives and friends,” Yashwantie said.

She noted that they received information that Lalbachan was seen in the vicinity of Diamond, Grove on the East Bank of Demerara.  “We took like three different vehicles, we search and nothing…We have a search group. All of the relatives, all the friends, we searching days and nights and we have not seen him as yet,” Yashwantie further stated.

The reward, according to Yashwantie, will only be paid once Lalbachan is safely handed over to the family.

“So the reward works like this: If they see him in person and they can actually take him to the police or you know hold onto him…they should just like capture him safely . So once we can be able to see him, we are going to offer $100,000,” she said.

Anyone will informaiton that may lead to the whereabouts of Lalbachan can contact his family on telephone numbers 630-5006 or 676-6588.
