Cellphone squabble ends in murder of Friendship man

A quarrel over a cellular phone on Saturday night resulted in a thirty-three-year-old man of Friendship, East Bank Demerara being stabbed to death and police have launched a search for the suspect.

Police have identified the dead man as Marlon Peters of Lot 46 Q Goblin Dam, Friendship, East Bank Demerara. 

Police said that the murder occurred at approximately 9.45 PM following an argument between the suspect and Peters.

An eyewitness told investigators that she saw the suspect standing in front of the shop where she went to purchase a drink. On her way home, she saw Peters walking east going home at which point he was approached by the suspect.

The eyewitness recalled hearing an argument erupt between the two men over a cellular phone that was stolen sometime back while they were in the interior.

She said she saw Peters walking away and continuing on his path home. However, the suspect followed and dealt him several stabs with a knife.

Peters sustained a single stab to the abdomen and two stabs to the back after which he immediately fell on the ground. The suspect then ran into some nearby bushes.

Peters was picked up and rushed to the Diamond Diagnostic Centre where he was later pronounced dead.

Police upon visiting the scene recovered a black-handled kitchen knife. It is suspected to be the murder weapon.
