Immediate widespread testing for COVID-19 should be done in these communities

Dear Editor,

It is with sad disbelief that I read that the first Region 9 Coronavirus victim had illegally entered our country from Brazil and has exposed many of our vulnerable Indigenous Communities to the virus. It is imperative that immediate widespread testing be conducted in these communities and that our borders are better secured. Our Ministries must move with utmost urgency to prevent a disaster from occurring. The movement of all goods within our supply chain needs to be under strict control with proper health measures in place. Brazil continues to be a high risk country for infection and their President has recently fired the Health Minister over an internal dispute where the Minister claims that the President refuses to take the recommended precautions to stem the spread of the virus. We must act with a sense of urgency and very quickly in this critical matter.

Yours faithfully,
