A husband and wife of Auchlyne Village, Corentyne, Berbice were yesterday granted $300,000 bail each after they denied a joint charge of possession of cannabis for trafficking.

Derrick and Christiana Munsami, 26, both of Lot 27 Auchlyne Village, Corentyne, were charged when they appeared before Magistrate Renita Singh at the Whim Magistrate’s Court.

They pleaded not guilty and were each asked to post $300,000 bail for their release.

They will return to court on July 5.

On Thursday last, police, based on information received, raided a location at Auchlyne Village, Corentyne, where the duo and another woman were noticed standing in a yard.

Upon noticing the ranks, Derrick, a farmer, who had two bulky bags, dropped them and made a run for it, while the two women were detained, the police said.

Police, in statement, had said, “In the presence of the females the ranks retrieved and opened the bags and found same to contain a quantity of suspected cannabis”.

The cannabis amounted to 705 grammes.
