Files destroyed in fire at CID office at Anna Regina Police Station

A number of items including important files were this morning destroyed after a fire was allegedly set at the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) office at the Anna Regina Police Station, Essequibo Coast. This was one of several fires today.

The building which is situated in the compound of the Anna Regina Police Station comprises  the CID office along with the Prosecutor and the Special Constabulary offices.

The police this morning said that around 5am, a constable who was on duty was making checks when he observed smoke emanating from the Regional detective inspector’s (RDI) office.

The RDI Office comprises two wooden desks along with several metal, plastic and wooden chairs.

Among the items destroyed were a computer system, several files, journals and other important documents.

The Guyana Fire Service was immediately summoned and they managed to extinguish the fire.

The police were also alerted and upon inspection it was observed that a louvre window had been removed.  A substance, believed to be kerosene was found on the ground.

No arrest has yet been made.
