Bartica miner found dead slumped over ATV

The police are investigating the death of a 31-year-old miner whose lifeless body was discovered slumped over an ATV at Kumung Kumung Backdam, Mazaruni River, Region Seven.

The dead man has been identified as Denzil Prince, a resident of Bartica.

Prince worked with a dredge owner of West Indian Housing Scheme, Bartica whose operation is located about two miles away from the Kumung Kumung Landing.

Investigations, according to the police, revealed that the dredge owner discovered Prince’s lifeless body slumped over his ATV, CG 6474.

The incident occurred sometime between 4 pm and 6.30 pm on Tuesday.

Prince’s employer reportedly told the police that he last saw him around 4.40 pm on Tuesday when he left the pit in which he was working.

He was taken  to the Bartica Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

Abrasions were seem to his knees and damage was observed to the front grill and fender of the ATV.

A team of police has been dispatched to the scene.

A post-mortem examination is expected to be conducted soon.
