Enmore knifing death file at DPP for advice

The case file involving the murder of a 19-year-old man from Dazzell Housing Scheme, Enmore, on the East Coast of Demerara has been sent to the office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) for advice.

This was confirmed by Regional Commander of Region 4 (c) Assistant Commissioner Royston Andries-Junor who spoke to this newspaper in a brief telephone interview. “The post mortem was completed and the file [was sent] for advice… hopefully we get it back tomorrow so we can move forward.”

Barneth McKenzie, of 371 14th Street died on Tuesday after being involved in an altercation with another teenager.

At around 4:50 pm, the suspect was at a nearby shop in the community when McKenzie arrived at the same location and the two got into a heated argument. This resulted in a scuffle between the two men and the suspect allegedly whipped out a knife and dealt McKenzie several stabs about his abdomen.

The victim was then rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

The suspect is currently in police custody assisting with investigations.
