Bench strength to be tested- Holder

Barbados Tridents’ skipper Jason Holder is wary that the bench strength of his side will be tested more in the 2020 edition of the Caribbean Premier League (CPL).

The defending champions are set to open their title defence against St. Kitts and Nevis Patriots on August 18.

Due to the unusual circumstances, the tournament will be played solely in Trinidad and Tobago. As such, there will be a number of double headers and back-to-back matches squeezed into just over a three-week period.

Holder spoke to the media yesterday virtually where he shared his views on the condensed fixtures.

“Definitely!” the all-rounder responded when asked about the testing of the bench strength this season compared to previous years.

“It’s obviously a condensed tournament, more or less you got to really look at how best you can manage players,” he added.

The 28-year-old West Indies Test captain suggested that the conditions will definitely change.

“I consider and assume with the tournament played one place between two grounds, the pitches could become worn so that’s another factor that you definitely need to take into consideration and this is the hurricane season that we are in so another thing is rain and outside being wet and that may pose another challenge.”

Holder revealed that he is wary of the challenges but posited that these circumstances are what makes the tournament so unique.

“All different variables to take into consideration but more or less that’s the beauty about this tournament and this year’s edition particularly, you know a few more variables can arise due to the constraints that we are left with,” he stated.
