Three stall owners at the Stabroek Market have tested positive for the novel coronavirus.

At a statutory meeting held yesterday at City Hall, Town Clerk Sherry Jerrick disclosed this information.

Jerrick said that in order to mitigate the spread of the virus in the market place, the council internally will look at other arrangements.

She said that the vendors infected have since ceased operating their stalls.

“We cannot have them in the market knowing that they are infected”, she said.

Jerrick informed this newspaper that most vendors are using face masks. Should a constable find a vendor not using a facemask they are charged. She noted that the $5000 fee previously put in place for vendors not wearing a face mask is still in place.

Mayor Ubraj Narine said the aim is to put things in place for the market as he noted that COVID-19 was a serious situation that should not be taken lightly.
