West Ruimveldt man feared drowned after Mazaruni mishap

A West Ruimveldt man is feared dead following a boat mishap at Gatie Falls, Semang Creek, Middle Mazaruni River, police in a statement said yesterday.

The missing man has been identified as Clement Morgan, 63, of Lot 436 West Ruimveldt, Georgetown.

Morgan went missing after the boat capsized at approximately 8.30pm while navigating through Gatie Falls. Police said during the navigation, the 40-horse power outboard engine cut off and the boat sank.

According to the report, at about 10 am on Monday, Morgan boarded the 19-foot aluminum boat, which was captained by Marvin Andrews, a miner of Cane Grove, Mahaica, East Coast Demerara, and had one passenger, Sanaika Jacobs. They were on their way to the Guyana Geology and Mines Commission office at Issano.

Preliminary investigations revealed that Andrews and Jacobs were able to swim to safety, however Morgan was not found and is feared dead.

Police added that despite Morgan’s address being given as West Ruimveldt, he last went to that address over 20 years ago.
